Oscars 2013: 10 Things They Got Wrong

4. Hitchcock Is Nominated For Best Makeup & Hairstyling

007 Though I knew it probably would be, I still shook my head with disbelief when Hitchcock was nominated for Best Makeup & Hairstyling, given that the makeup job isn't just pretty terrible - Hopkins still looks absolutely nothing like Hitch - but it also stifles the actor's performance and makes it feel as though we're just watching Anthony Hopkins in a fat suit playing Anthony Hopkins playing Hitchcock (which he basically is). Like last year's make-up job in J. Edgar (which was thankfully snubbed for this same honour), it's distracting, unhelpful and just plain rubbish. What should have been nominated instead? Lincoln had superb make-up and hair work throughout, and Looper, which used bizarre make-up techniques to make Joseph Gordon-Levitt more closely resemble a young Bruce Willis, would both have been fine additions.
