Oscars 2016: Predicting All The Winners

21. Performance By An Actor In A Supporting Role

The Nominees: Christian Bale (The Big Short), Mark Ruffalo (Spotlight), Mark Rylance (Bridge Of Spies), Sylvester Stallone (Creed), Tom Hardy (The Revenant)

Who Will Win? Sylvester Stallone (Creed)

Who Should Win? Sylvester Stallone (Creed)

Oddly enough, this year the spread of quality in the Best Supporting Actor category isn't as strong as it has been previously. Not that any of the nominees are bad (far from it - everyone deserves it, even if Idris Elba's haunting turn in Beats Of No Nation was excluded), but just that it's really hard to call this award, which normally has a clear frontrunner.

However, after the sheer enthusiasm following his Golden Globe win, and how he's come from far back in the race to the forefront, Sylvester Stallone is the best bet, finally winning an Oscar for his phenomenal multi-decade performance as Rocky Balboa. And who can argue - Creed was brilliant and his touching continuation of the character was its emotional core.
