Oscars 2018: Predicting All The Nominees

2. Best Director

Get Out Jordan Peele
Universal Pictures

A stacked category this year, so much so that Steven Spielberg could well miss out for The Post, while Call Me By Your Name's Luca Guadagnino will also be allowed to feel slightly unlucky not to get a nod. Denis Villeneuve should be here too, but Blade Runner 2049 is largely being shut out of the non-technical awards.

Interestingly, none of the five most likely contenders have ever been nominated in this category before. Of those, Greta Gerwig and Jordan Peele are of course newcomers, but there's an overdue narrative around Nolan that should cement his nom, even if it might not be enough for a win.

Nominees:

Guillermo del Toro (The Shape Of Water)

Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird)

Martin McDonagh (Three Billboards)

Christopher Nolan (Dunkirk)

Jordan Peele (Get Out)
