Oscars 2023: Final Predictions In Every Category
4. Best Actor
NOMINEES:
Austin Butler (Elvis)
Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin)
Brendan Fraser (The Whale)
Paul Mescal (Aftersun)
Bill Nighy (Living)
Who Should Win:
Brendan Fraser (The Whale)
Regardless of your opinion on the movie as a whole, Brendan Fraser gave a phenomenally transformative performance in The Whale, one that some simply didn't believe him capable of.
It's a searing work of soul-searching on Fraser's part, and seeing him on the Oscar podium would be quite the incredible sight indeed.
Who Will Win:
Austin Butler (Elvis)
Best Actor is by far the trickiest above-the-line field to predict this year. For a long time Colin Farrell had all the momentum, but Brendan Fraser has surged as of late while having one hell of a comeback narrative behind him.
Yet Best Actor hasn't been awarded to a film not nominated for Best Picture since Crazy Heart in 2010, and with the Golden Globe and BAFTA both going to Austin Butler, he's starting to seem like the safest bet.
We all know how much the Academy loves awarding biopic performances, and given their clear - if baffling - love for Elvis as a movie, it feels like Fraser fans might be left disappointed on Oscar night.
