Regal Cinema's allow Red Band Trailers!
More sex, more violence, more swearing! R-rated trailers will now be shown in Regal Cinema's, the largest cinema chain in the U.S.
All my life I've loved trailers. More often than not they are the best part of the movie going experience. Most of the time you can't predict them. You don't know what you are going to be showcased with next and that 90 second excitement whilst you see the best parts of a film "coming soon to a theatre near you" is always pretty cool. You get a big bite of a cherry and if you don't like it, you can forget about it and put in the back of your mind. If it tastes good, then of course it won't be long until you can get more. Often seeing the trailer in a cinema finally gives you the feeling a movie is coming out, especially when it is something you have anticipated for a long time. So why I am talking about trailers? Well today The Hollywood Reporter carry the sensible news that America's largest cinema chain Regal Cinema's have announced plans to release Red-Band trailers in theatres along with the R-Rated films they project. Usually these trailers are restricted to the web only as they have not been approved by the MPAA.
The new initiative means more sex, more breasts, more blood and more violence in the trailers you see before R-Rated movies. To me, it all seems sensible. I can't really understand why if the theatre usher had decided you were old enough to see a mature film, why you were then restricted from being showcased a trailer for a movie you will legally be allowed to see anyway. And hell, it's way more easier to see a restricted trailer online, no matter what your age is. It's not like it isn't out there for you to see it if you wanted too. And at the end of the day is this RED BAND trailer for the upcoming Forgetting Sarah Marshall really that over-sexual?No word on how this will effect other cinema chains but usually once one has adopted a popular change, the rest usually follow.
