RKO remaking Karloff movie Isle of the Dead

Eight weeks ago, I wrote a rather damning article against Twisted Pictures who because of the lack of originality brought to them by scriptwriters, decided it would be a good idea to resurrect the RKO vault and work in partnership with the forgotten studio to remake some of their real classics to the big screen. It wasn't so much that they were remaking these films from the 40's because there's a lot of crap in that era like everything else, and I'm sure there's a million ideas for good flicks that were turned out crap but the films they were eyeing to remake are absolute classics. I Walked With A Zombie, Cat People and Bedlam... they should never EVER be touched with.

The Hollywood Reporter have confirmed to us another movie that RKO are resurrecting for a remake. This time it's Isle of the Dead, a Boris Karloff led move which I've actually never seen, so I'm not as pissed about this one as I am for the movies above.
In the 1945 film directed by Val Lewton, Karloff played a Greek military commander on an island where a plague breaks out. He orders the isle quarantined and as residents fall ill and die, some begin to suspect that a vampire-demon might be the cause of the deaths.
Two unknowns (well they have names, Brian Horiuchi & Matt Lazarus, just I dunno who they are) have been given the reigns to scribe the remake which will now be set against a viral outbreak in Afghanistan. The movie was actually set in the 1912 despite being made 30 years later. Will the updated feel take away some of this flick's charms? A Karloff/Lewton movie I haven't seen! I'm going to have to hunt down this one!
