Sony Wins Foreign Rights To Quentin Tarantino's DJANGO UNCHAINED

Deadline reports that international rights to Quentin Tarantino's Spaghetti Western Django Unchained has landed at Sony Pictures and they will co-finance the film which shoots this summer or fall for a release next year. The Weinstein Company handles domestic. After Universal International did such a good job on Inglourious Basterds ($200 million from foreign territories) and since employees at a meeting with the writer/director on Friday when to such extreme efforts to secure rights and wore "T-shirts emblazoned with the languages of all the managing directors of the territories in town... And a bag of handmade scalps was presented to Tarantino -- a reference to the "100 Nazi scalps" from Inglourious Basterds" it's rather surprising Django Unchained ended up at Sony. Then again this is the home of Will Smith who has collaborated on just about every blockbuster he ever made with the company and who Quentin Tarantino specifically wants to cast as the title character, so the move to go with Sony above everyone else is premeditated.
