9. The New Title Is Perfect
Speculation about what Bond 24 would be called has been rife since Skyfall's closing credits typically confirmed that "James Bond will return" and in the build up to today's announcement that's only been amped up. From suggestions that it'd take inspiration from one of the few unused Fleming stories, to actually repeat an earlier name (many of the Connery- and Moore-era Bonds were questionable as adaptations), there were hundreds of potential names for this new movie, although, hearing the official one, it's hard to think of it being called anything else. Spectre is one of few names that actually warranted such a hullabaloo about the title announcement. Blofeld's global terror organisation from the Connery (and Lazenby) movies, it carries so much weight to Bond fans and manages to craft so much excitement for a hitherto un-hyped movie. Mendes was naturally coy about the title's real significance, although the official synopsis from Sony Pictures confirms that he's not just trolling everyone - the film really is going back to basics.
