Spider-Man 3: 12 Huge Rumours That Would Change Everything

Dark days (and a lot of multiverse madness) might await our Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man...

It's hard to believe that just a few short months ago we had no idea what the planned third Spider-Man film would look like.

Already a topic of heavy discussion due to the jaw-dropping conclusion of second installment Spider-Man: Far From Home, the rug was pulled out from under us after the shocking news broke that Sony and Marvel Studios' deal over shared use of the Spider-Man character had come to an abrupt end - turning a once-dreamy situation into a nightmare.

However, a massive wave of backlash from fans (and some wise words from Tom Holland himself - forced those pesky executives to reach a new agreement) ensuring that Sony and Marvel Studios would unite once more to produce a third Spider-Man movie - slated to hit screens on July 16, 2021.

The fact of the matter is that, in spite of all that, we still have no idea what Spider-Man 3 will look like. Sure, we know Tom Holland and Zendaya are returning, but given the changing landscape of the MCU right now (and, again, that cliffhanger) very little is certain.

Naturally, rumours and theories in regards to what could happen in Spidey's third adventure have been doing the rounds... and, in all honesty, some of them are really quite shocking.

12. Mysterio Is Still Alive

The ending of Spider-Man: Far From Home completely changed the game because what once seemed like Peter Parker's career-defining moment as a superhero quickly descended into an unexpected nightmare for the web-slinger, as a fabricated video provided to J. Jonah Jameson wrongfully portrayed him as the murderer of Quentin Beck a.k.a. Mysterio.

Naturally an ending such as this has prompted a ton of theories and rumours in regards to what the third film's plot may be - most of which attempt to look at how Peter will get out of this mess. However, one of the more intriguing options suggest that Mysterio isn't actually dead.

After all, the character is a master of illusion who, somehow even in death, managed to frame Peter for his murder. But why would he do that to someone he genuinely liked when the battle was over? Unless, y'know, the battle isn't over.

If Mysterio were alive all along, it would change the face of the sequel altogether, as the story would be less about clearing his name than it would be about dealing with some unfinished business. And, if this is the case, it could even pave the way for the introduction of the long-rumoured Sinsister Six.
