Few film franchises last for over thirty years. Sure, there's stuff like Planet of the Apes that's been around since 1968, but those have had long gaps between films... in one case ten years, in another case 28 years! Whereas Star Trek has been regularly releasing film after film since 1979, and the longest we've gone without a new one has been 6 years. Of course, releasing movies that regularly means some of them will likely suffer in quality. Nonetheless, the Star Trek series has managed to keep a pretty good standard going, with the entire franchise averaging 67% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, we're going to take this opportunity to rank all of the Star Trek films, beginning with the worst, and working up to the best. And the biggest turkey of them all is of course....
12. Star Trek: Nemesis (2002)
Allow me to review some points about this movie, and you try to guess how terrible it turned out. The director's former credits included 'U.S. Marshals' and 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider'. He also hated the original Star Trek series, and knew literally nothing about The Next Generation, to the point that he thought Geordi La Forge was an alien. The plot follows the Enterprise being sent to Romulus to negotiate a peace treaty, but it turns out that a young clone of Picard (played by Bane from The Dark Knight Rises) has taken control of the Romulan empire and plans to attack Earth, but is dying and needs Picard's blood to survive. Does that setup sound like it could possibly be anything but a disaster? Well, it was. It was released to scathing reviews and the lowest box office returns of any Star Trek film. Much criticism was leveled at the director and the fact that one third of the footage was cut (to the point of completely eliminating some of the characters in it!).
The Good: Some of the action sequences are genuinely impressive, and Shinzon's ship is awesome.
The Bad: Too many cuts to the film lead to it being way too short and lacking on plot and character development.
The Ugly: Tom Hardy as Picard. It's just... weird.
