Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 10 Things You Need To Know
2. Jakku
When we first saw that desert planet in the first teaser trailer for The Force Awakens, it's safe to say that just about everyone assumed that it was Tatooine (despite some more eagle eyed fans pointing out that there was only one sun). It's since been confirmed as Jakku, another planet altogether and one of those which really felt the impact of the battle between the Rebellion and Empire after the fall of Vader and The Emperor. The battle there took place around a year after the destruction of the second Death Star above Endor, and you will get the opportunity to live that in the Star Wars: Battlefront video game which will see the fight made available as DLC. Jakku is scattered with the remains of the ships which fell to the ground during the battle, and concept art revealed that Rey actually lives in a fallen AT-AT. That's going to be fun to see, while the sight of that Super Star Destroyer lying in the sand was a great choice of imagery for the teaser, particularly given the very obvious implication that the Resistance are winning. Using Jakku instead of Tatooine is an interesting move too, especially as it bears such a resemblance to Luke's home and his lightsaber is expected to end up there. Perhaps Abrams decided to make Jakku a desert planet so that Rey's story at least somewhat mirrors Luke's, but taking Tatooine out of the equation obviously means it doesn't feel as forced as her growing up in a location which has already been well explored in these movies.
