Star Wars: A Visual History

It's been a long journey to get to The Force Awakens.

No other movie series has had quite the same impact as Star Wars. One of the highest grossing franchises of all time, and certainly the most beloved, it completely changed the way cinema operates. Taking the torch from Jaws, Star Wars solidified the blockbuster as Hollywood's biggest money-maker - releasing a movie everywhere at once, rather than gradually rolling out as was the style at the time, became commonplace. And that's saying nothing of the marketing blitz that accompanied the first movie, and every other since. From Star Wars onwards merchandise became an increasingly important part of any movie franchise. But there's a lot more to Star Wars than just the six (soon to be seven) ground-breaking movies. In the almost forty years since audiences first visited that galaxy far, far away, it's become an incredible behemoth that, despite there being over a decade between trilogies, hasn't let up since it began. TV specials, spin-off movies and major controversy over the versions of movies that get released, Star Wars has offered a lot in its history. Come and take a look back over the incredible galaxy and how audiences first got to experience it. There's probably a lot more than you realise.

Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in late 2012 brought with it some incredible news - there's going to be a Star Wars Episode VII.

Due on 18th December, 2015, Star Wars: The Force Awakens (in the tradition of the Original Trilogy, the Episode moniker has been dropped) will continue the Saga's story in a plot still tightly under wraps.

A recent trailer was nothing short of incredible, offering a delectable mix of classic nostalgia and the incredibly new. And countless debates over whether a cross-guard lightsaber is practical.
