Sylvester Stallone Confirms Mel Gibson For The Expendables 3

The_Expendables_3_38525 Yesterday, the iconic and storied action star Sylvester Stallone sent out a tweet that seemingly confirms that Mel Gibson has signed on for a role in The Expendables 3. It said;
Mad Max vs Barney Ross......
Mad Max is of course the legendary character portrayed by Mel Gibson in two movies from the 1980s (we think we are pretty safe in assuming that because Gibson has been so vocally courted for a role in this movie previously that Stallone isn't referring to Tom Hardy, who appears in next year's franchise reboot) and Barney Ross is the leader of The Expendables. Judging from the "vs" observation it appears that Mel will be portraying a villain of sorts. It's not going to be an easy feat topping prior villains such as Jean Claude Van-Damme, although something tells me Mel can manage it. Mel Gibson joins Jackie Chan, Milla Jovovich, Nicolas Cage, and Wesley Snipes as new additions to the franchise. The films are built around a gimmick that sees classic action film stars of back in the day bringing explosive, bloody, and testosterone fueled justice to terrorists and general stereotypical action villain caricatures. Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham will all be returning. The Expendables 3 is slated to be released in August of 2014 and filming kicks off next month.
