Eerie subtlety was the order of the day with this poster that acted as refreshing antidote to the two decades of wild and excessive B-movie artwork that preceded it. It was also ahead of it's time, foreshadowing the silhouetted minimalism that would feature prominently in years to come with such posters as The Exorcist's.
And with a simple, effective tagline bleeding into the title with 'Pray for...', the poster proved that you didn't need to be over the top and schlockly in order to sell horror.
