The Grinch Review: 3 Ups & 6 Downs

2. The Music Is (Mostly) Terrible

Because The Grinch is a modern animated movie, and one from Illumination no less, it of course has to include a bunch of contemporary pop music that doesn't really suit the mood or tone at all.

Unless you're a big fan of Tyler, the Creator, you'll probably find most of his original contributions to the movie's soundtrack irritating and ill-fitting, because what place does rap really have in a Grinch movie of all things?

Though there are some more typical, classic Christmas songs in the mix, for the most part the film feels like it's trying way too hard to evoke a hip, modern feel, and it just doesn't work at all.

Even Danny Elfman's musical score goes in one ear and out the other, which is a real shame.
