TIMECOP remake?

Yes, Jean Claude Van Damme's finest hour is being eyed for a remake.

I love guilty pleasure movies, especially with me having such a academic background where I'm suppose to advocate the works of Jean-Luc Godard, Orson Welles and Fellini (although I do) but sometimes it's stuff like Timecop that really gets me juices going. Sometimes there's just nothing better than Jean-Claude Van Damme and a mixture of time travel. IESB are today reporting that Dark Horse Entertainment, the studio who in the past have brought us The Mask, Hellboy and yes the original Timecop... are looking to remake the $100 million dollar grossed, 1994 movie in conjunction with Universal and apparentaly a "100% bad ass and one of the coolest action stars of today" is being circled for the gig. And no, it's not Van Damme again. The original film had an absolutely killer plot which borrowed a lot from Dick's story Minority Report, where time travel was possible and Van Damme was the head of a special police organization which existed to stop people time travelling to change the past for their own personal benefit. Of course after his wife's death, he knows that time travelling would save her but it would also defy the laws he has worked all his life promoting. Awesome concept and it's still original enough and hasn't been over-played too much to actually be a huge summer blockbuster. I know, I know... REMAKES = BAD.... but Timecop was never Minority Report. It's a guilty pleasure movie, which could become an amazing sci-fi/action movie. I just wonder which actor they are circling. Ah, how naive they were to think we could time travel by 2004...
