Adam Green's generally underappreciated slasher homage Hatchet boasts a number of brilliantly nasty practical effects-based kills, the very best of which befalls unfortunate tourist Shannon Permatteo (Patrika Darbo).
On her travels, Shannon ends up crossing paths with vengeful serial killer Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder), who promptly grabs her and rips her head in half from the jaw-up with his bare hands, leaving her looking like the world's most cursed Pez Dispenser.
The genius of this kill comes from its brilliantly detailed practical effects, and also Green's decision to present the kill as an apparent single take.
Green cleverly uses a hidden cut to seamlessly transition between actress Patrika Darbo and the gore-filled prop of her head.
Even after four Hatchet movies, this kill from the original film remains the untoppable OG - a masterclass in executing a creative and disgusting kill in a technically smart manner on a low budget.
