20 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Might Be Better Than The First

Godzilla Minus One was a massive international hit far beyond anyone's expectations, becoming the highest-grossing Toho-produced Godzilla film and winning a Best Visual Effects Oscar against bigger-budget Hollywood competition.

Critics tripped over themselves to praise the film as a refreshingly character-driven Godzilla movie - a rare one to offer up human characters who didn't feel like a tedious distraction from the monster shenanigans.

And so it didn't take long for a sequel, Godzilla Minus Zero, to be announced, and while the original is one hell of a tough act to follow, it's easy to have faith in writer-director Takashi Yamazaki after what he turned in the first time.

Original leads Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe are set to return, but most enticingly the sequel won't only take place in Japan - sequences have also been shot in New Zealand and Norway, which should ensure a more diverse aesthetic compared to the first.

While it wouldn't surprise anyone if Godzilla Minus Zero wasn't quite as good as its predecessor, there's definitely the potential for it to benefit from its bigger budget.
