X-Men: Dark Phoenix - 8 Mistakes It Must Avoid

6. Glossing Over Jean's Relationship With Cyclops

Sophie Turner seems to grow into an increasingly capable actress with every season of Game of Thrones, but it's fair to say she didn't exactly set the screen alight in X-Men: Apocalypse... not in that sense anyway.

Utilising her more effectively is vitally important to Dark Phoenix's success, but the movie must also get more out of her love interest, Tye Sheridan's Cyclops.

Their teenage romance was only just beginning in Apocalypse and most fans would be hard pressed to recall many of the scenes they shared, but it must play out with more depth and pathos in the next sequel.

Their relationship is the heart and soul of the story, and the audience needs to be rooting for them as a couple by the time Jean is lost to the Phoenix Force or the film won't pack the necessary emotional punch.

Fans felt like they had been stabbed in the heart when Wolverine met his maker in the excellent Logan, and Dark Phoenix has to stir up the same emotions for Jean.
