Sales of SEGA's struggling Game Gear handheld were hardly helped in 1993, when a British high street store raised the price to a wallet-clenching £55,000 for a one-off piece of ludicrous luxury tat designed by London jeweller David Morris International.
Taccily billed as "the ultimate present for the children of the super rich," the mega-expensive Game Gear was housed in a diamond-encrusted 18 karat gold case, with 46 carat diamonds inlaid as detailing. Just the gold alone weighed a chunky 800 grams - not exactly ideal for gaming on the move (you'd definitely need a protective carry case).
There were no games included with the golden Game Gear for 55 big ones, but it was at least supplied with six requisite batteries. Which would last for about an hour or so.
