Up there in the top five games I absolutely will not ever stop talking about, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is a gorgeous puzzle adventure from the creator of It Takes Two. There are some standout memorable levels in this one that I absolutely won’t spoil for you here but as a result some of the other incredible levels in the game fade into the background a little when they absolutely deserve to be remembered.

The narrative calls for two young brothers to go on a perilous journey to find the tree of life whose water will cure their ailing father.

The adventure has many twists and turns but one especially cool level takes place over a battlefield. Here you’ll see a great conflict with many lives lost has taken place but it’s not just any battle, all of the bodies are those of giants. Given this is a game with no spoken dialogue, everything you learn about the world and its characters is through exploration and what you can glean from the journey.

Navigating the brothers over and around the giant’s dead limbs and body parts is pretty confronting.

It’s a relatively small part of the game but the implications for what’s going on in the world outside of the journey and priorities of your protagonists is very cool and a great example of environmental storytelling.
