10 Best First-Person Shooters Of All Time
2. Doom Eternal
The Doom franchise carved out the template for the first-person shooter genre so it can be enjoyed the way it is today. Released in 1993, its combination of sci-fi and gore made it an instant hit with gamers who hadn't really ever seen such rich textures alongside the ability to play multiplayer.
So why is the recent Doom Eternal on this list and not the original? Simple, because if you were to pick up both titles right now, there would be a clear winner.
Doom Eternal improved the pacing of its predecessors, introduced new enemies and truly took the franchise to a better place in terms of graphics. The gameplay is still blisteringly fast and enough to make players sweat like they're competing in a marathon and most importantly the game keeps the spirit of Doom alive for another generation.
No first-person shooter list worth it's salt would leave out a Doom game and it feels only appropriate to place the most cutting-edge title here. With that said, there will undoubtedly be opinions contrary to this as all the Doom games are pretty good (nods heavily towards the under-appreciated Doom 3).
