10 Best Launch Video Games Ever
1. Wii Sports (Wii)
There is quite simply no game that has ever been a better representative for the console it launched than Wii Sports for the Nintendo Wii. The bowling and tennis in particular were responsible for the booming popularity of the console (and a lot of smashed TVs in the process), while the golf and baseball kept players interested and the increased difficulty curve of the boxing meant there was enough challenge for those willing to go looking too.
The follow up motion capture failures from both PlayStation and Xbox failed understand the fundamentals behind the Wii’s success. It wasn’t that playing with motion control was especially cool or any more engaging; it was the fact anyone in the family could pick up and play.
Wii Sports did this perfectly, and that was why it succeeded. So many other games chasing its popularity were just regular games with needlessly fiddly motion control added on.
Though the likes of Mario Party, Wii Fit and handful of others used the technology correctly, no game came close to ousting Wii Sports as the quintessential Wii experience, and therefore the best launch title of them all.
