2. Clementine - The Walking Dead
Most of the characters here only got a single game this decade, while some lucked out and got a couple. That's no real surprise, given how long great games take to develop and how short, relatively speaking, a decade is. Clementine though, as the star of shorter, lower budget Telltale point and click The Walking Dead, received four distinct releases.
Given than Clementine goes from around eight years old to around 17, it's not just that we received so many Clementine games as it is that we witnessed her through her formative years. She undergoes substantial changes, but they all feel earned and natural, bringing us much closer to her as a result.
Telltale's The Walking Dead was unfortunately marred by their unceremonious closure during the release of the final season, which saw employees unpaid and threatened to leave Clementine's story without an ending. The final two episodes were eventually released through Skybox Games, and Clementine was able to sign off properly.
The Walking Dead was never short of intensity, but the moment Clementine is tasked with either shooting Lee or leaving him to die as player control switched to her ranks as one of the decade's most intense.
