Grand Theft Auto has been around for almost 20 years, but it wasn't until GTA3 came out in 2001 did Rockstar take the game in a new direction that would forever change the franchise. It was still a game that allowed you to steal cars and do other criminal activities, but adding a 3D open world setting, more weapons, entertaining characters and more vehicles to use turned it into one of the most popular franchises in the history of gaming. With 15 standalone titles and expansion packs, GTA is one of the most successful series from an American developer. Every sequel that comes out is generally well-received, but it was when they took the game back in time for Vice City that they really flexed their creative muscles. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UB5hpk0iqg Each game takes players to a different city and stars a different character, or in the case of the most recent game, three characters. You are usually either new to the area or returning to town after an absence and it's your job as the player to build up your character and become one of the most respected criminals in the city. Each city adds new elements and activities, giving players the ability to play the game at their own pace while doing side quests whenever they feel bored with the main storyline or whenever they need a little bit of cash for an upgrade or a gun. Sometimes it's just fun to steal cars and roam around the city looking for trouble. It's easy to imagine a gamer racking up over 100 hours by simply enjoying all the things these games have to offer.
