10 Best Video Game Easter Eggs, Secrets & References Of 2017 (So Far)

4. For Honor Paying Homage To The Greats

For Honor Mortal Kombat
Ubisoft/NetherRealm

For Honor feels like it kind of came and went, lost amongst a sea of more critically acclaimed titles like Nioh, Horizon Zero Dawn and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Still, it's easily one of Ubisoft's most polished titles in quite some time, the devs even taking the time to flesh out background detail in a number of scenarios.

One of the best is tucked away into the distance of the Sanctuary map, where you can see two fighters preparing to duel on a precarious walkway, far up in the air. This directly mirrors the setup of Mortal Kombat's legendary 'The Pit' stage, which first appeared in Mortal Kombat II.

Sadly, the fighters don't move or perform fatalities on each other - but it's still great to see the lifeblood of Mortal Kombat's brutal one-on-one fighting ways have infiltrated other properties.
