5. Despelote

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Panic

You needn't be a fan of football to have an absolute whale of a time with Despelote, a fantastically charming walking simulator inspired by the actual life experiences of developer Julián Cordero.

Despelote is set in Ecuador's capital city of Quito as an eight-year-old Julián follows the national football team's historic qualification for 2002's FIFA World Cup.

You'll run from place to place throughout Quito with a childlike sense of wonder, interacting with the locals and, of course, kicking a football around the city at will.

As adorable as all this is, aided by an evocative, high-contrast art-style, Despelote's grandest achievement is fusing a nostalgic peek back into the past with a genuine exploration of how sport, and football in particular, can unite communities, instil hope, and even change the course of lives for the better.

Fundamentally chill and clocking in at only around 90 minutes, Despelote is a perfect palate cleanser to hang with after powering through a beefy AAA monster.
