8. Tearing Cutie Apart - It Takes Two

It Takes Two opens with Code and May readying to get divorced, which leaves their daughter, Rose, absolutely devastated. When the pair are magically turned into dolls, they're forced to work together to revert to their human forms.

Although It Takes Two delves into adult themes, the co-op platformer doesn't exactly scream "disturbing," considering the lead couple spend their time fighting vacuum cleaners and teaming up with squirrels.

That is until Chapter 4. Over time, Code and May become convinced Rose's tears are the only thing to reverse the spell. To make her cry, they decide to destroy their daughter's most beloved possession, an elephant teddy called Cutie. Out of desperation, our "heroes" rip off Cutie's leg, tear off her ear, and dump her broken body for Rose to find.

To really guilt-trip players, the developers designed Cutie to be as adorable as possible. She has a dainty demeanour, a sweet voice, and child-like wonder, so you immediately fall in love with her. As such, watching Cutie pleading for her life while she's being brutally dismantled is heartbreaking.

Even though Cutie's death successfully makes Rose's cry, it doesn't break the spell, making the poor elephant's demise more tragic.
