Mortal Kombat was an instant success when it hit the arcade back in the early 1990s. It had a solid line-up of characters, sharp controls, and photorealistic graphics.

But we all know what the franchise is really famous for.

Mortal Kombat carved its legacy into the gaming world for its incessant bloodshed, which is best demonstrated in the game's finishing moves: The Fatalities.

Over 300 Fatalities are showcased throughout the 11 official games (ten if you exclude Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, which most people do).

To stop gamers from getting desensitised to Mortal Kombat's violence, each sequel has to up the ante. The early games had simple finishers like punching your opponent's head off or pulling their heart out.

Over the years, the graphics have improved and the mechanics have become more complex, allowing the developers to make the Fatalities more elaborate. Some of the finishing moves are so ridiculous, it's nearly impossible not to wince at the incessant gore and gallons of blood spewing across the screen.

10. Hair Today Gone Tomorrow - Sindel (MK11)

Debuting in Mortal Kombat 3, Sindel quickly gained a reputation for slaughtering her enemies with her sonic scream and enchanted hair. When she was announced as a DLC character for Mortal Kombat 11, fans were hyped since she has been absent from the franchise for nine years.

When gamers got the chance to play as the wicked sorceress, they were not disappointed. Fans were won over by her amazing design, intricate combos, stylised moves, and awesome Fatalities.

After only being available in the game for a few months, fans saw her Hair Today Gone Tomorrow Fatality as one of the grizzliest yet. For her finishing blow, she uses her hair to impale her victim through their mouth. Her hair then pokes out of her opponent's stomach before embedding itself into their arms and coming out of their face, forcing their eyes to pop out.

As the hair swivels around her foe's body more and more, it tightens around every joint like a rack. After her hair has enveloped every part of her rival's body, Sindel allows it to snap back, causing the body to implode.
