10 Greatest Spin-Offs In Video Games
4. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
"Raiden! What is best in life?" "To sever your enemies limbs, rip out their spinal cords, and feast on the juices within."
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance sees Raiden - Metal Gear Solid 2's unwanted hero - finally come into his own, courtesy of the action-game maestros at Platinum Studios. Raiden is an utter joy to control in this game, a balletic dervish of grace and fury who lightens up even the most mundane fights with his limb-lopping moveset.
Not that there are many mundane fights in Revengeance. The game sets the tone by having you bisect a 25-foot mech within 15 minutes of starting and rarely lets up afterwards. Eight-limbed supermodels, a cyborg samurai wolfhound (who becomes your best friend) and an instantly memetic final boss are just some of the incredible encounters awaiting you in this gloriously batshit spin-off.
Given that Konami are resting on their laurels with the Metal Gear franchise, they could do a hell of a lot worse than hand the reins over to Platinum to let them continue what they started.
