In games more so than any other medium, we put so much stock in the opinions of reviews because, after all, a video game costs £40 a pop, and we want to know we're going to get our money's worth. We obsess over MetaCritic scores and judge a game almost solely on those merits it seems sometimes, when the truth is, believe it or not, sometimes the critics got it wrong. Though a score of below 70 is generally regarded as the critical kiss of death for most games, it is curious that even some of the games on this list managed to reach well into the 80s. So how are they underrated, then? Not everything quite hinges on critics, and sometimes a fanbase is so vocal in their commitment to everything that came before, that not even endorsements across the board from the most prominent video game sites can change their minds. Underrated either by critics or gamers, these titles deserve a second chance if you're stuck for games to play in this new year drought period. And of course, if there are any I missed or any you disagree with, let's argue in the comments!
