In this modern-day and age, the concept of a "vanilla" video game experience is becoming something of a rarity, what with the sheer amount of "limited" "collectors" and "hyper-mega ultra exclusive" editions that flood the market with every single video game release.

In an effort to provide consumers different levels of buy-in for their titles (and to recoup some of the developing costs by gouging their most hardcore fans) publishers often go to extreme lengths to shove as many shiny bells and whistles into these editions in order to catch our eye and make our wallets cry. Yet sometimes a title will come out with an edition so utterly off the wall, so jam-packed with neat trinkets, or be of such good value that every single person and their nan will try and get their hands on one, leading to the prices of these editions to skyrocket as if launched from the steepest supply/demand scale ever.

Whether rich in exclusive tat or just offering something so cool you HAVE to own it, these editions will fetch monstrous prices online and are a must have for true collectors of their respective franchises.

10. Dark Souls 3 Prestige Edition

FromSoftware

Now it's widely known that the Dark Souls franchise has some of the most passionate fans out there. Wherever you look online you'll find traces of their existence, from the endless references to sun praising and jolly cooperation to the reams of online bullying that one can only assume from the "git gud" mentality that these games manifest, the Dark Souls fandom is rife.

It's also one that is ripe for the plucking it seems as when FromSoftware announced a Prestige Edition of Dark Souls 3, even the hefty price tag didn't deter the fanbase and pre-orders ran drier than a hollowed one skin in mere minutes. Now commanding a hugely inflated price online, these editions not only came with the game and all the trimmings such as iron-on patches and a lovely cloth map but also a whopping statue depicting Yhorm The Giant which towered over everything else.

It's a lovely statue no doubt but to own one of these today alongside the other gubbins will set you back over ONE THOUSAND pounds depending on where you're looking. Even the model alone goes for mad prices seeing as it's so sought after meaning that if you want to be a true lord of cinder you're going to need to burn a hole in your bank account.
