10 Inspirations Star Wars Rogue One Will Take From The Dark Forces Franchise
3. Darth Vader: Imperial Overseer
Is it fathomable to conceive a Star Wars film in which Darth Vader fills a minor role while still among the living? Up until 2016, absolutely not. For those of that consume everything Star Wars, Vader has already done so during the second season of Star Wars: Rebels. And to much fanfare, it worked. Fans know the story of Darth Vader ad nauseam, so using him as a piece to propel other story elements is smart. Vader will dominate every scene with his presence; it's not surprising that his role in Rogue One will mostly be as a background figure.
Vader's role in Rogue One will most likely be multi tiered. Since the Death Star is the Emperor's ultimate weapon, it's no surprise he dispatches Vader to oversee its progression. It has to be assumed Director Krennic will answer to the Emperor through Vader. With little character details known about the character interactions of this film, Krennic could view Vader as a roadblock to his rise through the Imperial ranks and finding favor with the Emperor; a plot point seen many times in Star Wars lore.
Much like Krennic will face adversity through Darth Vader, General Rom Mohc also dealt with Vader in the hopes of raising his own stock in the Emperor's eyes. While working on the Dark Trooper Project, Mohc had to answer to Vader during the Rebel attempts to disrupt his project. As events evolved and Kyle Katarn began disrupting Mohc's plans at every turn, Mohc's arrogance would eventually become his undoing; a possibility movie goers may witness with Krennic.
