10 Most Depressing Video Game Endings

3. Red Dead Redemption

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKafS8zn5TI Red Dead Redemption remains without question one of the very best video games of the now winding-down generation of gaming, proving that Rockstar have plenty to offer outside of their usual gang warfare aesthetic. A rootin'-tootin' western that at once satirised and paid homage to the genre, Red Dead offered up everything a good game needs; superb voice acting, a cinematic story, thrilling action and great visuals. The protagonist, John Marston, a likeable rogue, ends up having to sacrifice himself for the good of his wife and child at the game's finale, making for a truly classic video game moment. Marston emerges from his barn to find a gang with all their guns pointed at him. The player is then briefly allowed to take control, lining up a few shots before John is ripped to shreds by a hail of gunfire. Impressively, Rockstar even sidesteps the cliched last words, as once his family arrive back on the scene, John is already long gone. The only solace is that the post-game allows you to play as John's son Jack three years later, who now bears an amusing resemblance to his old man.
