3. Console Wars
Perhaps the oldest and most ubiquitous entry on this list is one which every gamer is either aware of or has actively participated in: the console war.
From the halcyon days of Atari and Intellivision, the legendary Sega and Nintendo bouts of the nineties and, most recently, Xbox and PlayStation, gamers have consistently picked a side.
Whilst it is obviously true that many gamers have no distinct brand loyalty, and would pick up an Xbox AND a PlayStation simply for the love of gaming, there has always been a highly vocal contingent who would strongly beg to differ.
Perhaps subconsciously taking their lead from Sega's (in)famous "Genesis Does What Nintendon't" advertising campaign of the nineties, there are gamers of all backgrounds who are extremely quick to point out your staggeringly numerous failings as a human being and - somewhat inevitably - question your parentage, should you DARE to state your love for a system which they themselves do not own.
It's ludicrous, really. More consoles equals more choice and ultimately more games, and that's a huge positive.
Then there's the PC gamers...
