10 Recent Video Games That Have Already Been Forgotten
6. Atomfall
On the face of it, Atomfall seemed like a game that might become a sleeper hit with players, given that it was a gorgeous-looking survival game from a solid developer (Rebellion Developments) with an intriguing alt-history hook.
And though it launched promisingly back in March by peaking with more than 6,000 concurrent players on Steam, it ultimately shed 90% of its player-base within a month and seemed to be quickly forgotten soon thereafter.
This likely speaks to the fact that Atomfall had a good-but-not-great critical reception, many expressing frustration that the excellent world-building wasn't supported by more robust and interesting gameplay.
And it of course can't be ignored that the game's day one release on Xbox Game Pass allowed folk to try the game for a bit and then bail the moment they stopped vibing with the gameplay, as many evidently did.
Ultimately given that the vastly superior S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl released just a few months earlier, many likely already had their first-person post-apocalyptic fill for a good while.
