10 Scariest Video Game Moments Nobody Saw Coming

4. Arkham Knight's Man-Bat

Something Rocksteady absolutely nailed in Batman: Arkham Asylum, City and Knight was the feeling of playing as the bat himself. Boasting an array of gadgets, superior fighting skills and the ability to fly around Gotham, Batman is the game's most fearsome predator. At least he was until Dr. Kirk Langstrom messed around with life.

There you are, innocently scaling buildings like a superhero legend when Langstrom's alter ego shows up to cover you in drool and scare the hell out of you. This was a sweet way to introduce one of Arkham Knight's many side missions, largely because it's impossible to prepare for. How were gamers to know Man-Bat would be snarling in Batman's face?

The game gives you no warning that this is about to happen either. Later, the Man-Bat becomes a nuisance (seriously, stop flying all around when we're trying to save your life, Langstrom), but the character's introduction is memorable. It's also the reason you wet your pants.
