One of fans' biggest questions following the release of The Force Awakens was how and why C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) sported a temporary, distinctive red arm.

The answer was unveiled the next year in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens' DLC pack "The Phantom Limb," which was actually an adaptation of a comic, Star Wars: C-3PO, released a few months prior.

The level sees C-3PO and other Resistance droids crash-landing on the acidic planet Taul, where in the chaos Threepio loses his arm to a tentacled monster.

At this point C-3PO forges an unlikely alliance of survival with a First Order protocol droid, Omri, who ends up sacrificing himself by walking out into an acid rainstorm to activate a Resistance distress beacon.

Omri is promptly melted by the acid rain, revealing his red chassis underneath, prompting C-3PO to pick up Omri's arm and affix it to himself as a tribute to his fallen comrade.

I'm not crying, you're crying.
