4. Are Umbrella Really Good Guys Now?

Following on from the Chris Redfield question, the ending suggests at face value that Umbrella has become a benevolent organisation, showing up to rescue Ethan.

However, is that really the case, or is this some classic misdirection?

The Likely Answer: Umbrella being a company now set on destroying BOWs would be a novel twist to the franchise's formula, and many fans have pointed to the blue Umbrella logo seeming decidedly less sinister and more Red Cross-inspired than the classic red one, but it really comes down to whether or not you believe that's really Chris Redfield or not.

If it's him, then there's no way in Hell he works for evil Umbrella (and we can discount all those "he's a clone!" or "he has a mind-control scarab!" theories, because they're exactly the bulls**** this game was moving away from).

If "Chris" is actually HUNK in disguise, then yes, Umbrella are probably up to their old tricks again. Don't expect this one to be decisively answered either way for a while, but reinventing Umbrella as a force for good after they financially imploded would be a terrific way to extend RE7's vibe as a soft reboot of sorts.
