10 Video Game Body Horror Fates Worse Than Death
7. Mutated By Structure Gel - SOMA
The words ‘body horror’ and SOMA just go together well, but for the sake of picking just one example of a horrible fate for this list, we’re going to settle on Terry Akers: formerly a pleasant, middle-aged man with a penchant for chess, working on PATHOS-II.
After ingesting a hell of a lot of structure gel, Akers began to resemble all the nameless proxies in a lot of ways. His body is discoloured and covered in growths and tumours, his face sunken into itself with no features left distinguishable (although the missing eyes have a whole backstory of their own).
His upper body is bloated and misshapen, with medical room scans revealing that his skeleton has followed suit.
Imagine being an honest working man all your life, just nearing retirement age when things suddenly start to go south for you. Your skeleton starts playing twister with itself, your skin erupts in bubbling boils and you become so sensitive to light that you end up listening to the voice in your head telling you to get rid of your own eyes. Grim.
