10 Video Game Bosses That Made Us Rage Quit (2023 Edition)
Beating any of these insane bosses will earn you bragging rights.
Video game bosses have been challenging players for decades. While many bosses are designed to be skill checks to determine if they've grasped the mechanics well enough to progress to the next level, other bosses are meant to push their abilities to the limit.
Beating these kinds of rock-solid boss fights aren’t just an achievement, they're a badge of honour that can proudly be boasted about to friends. It requires lightning-fast reflexes, endurance, and high-level gear acquired from hours of grinding to ensure victory in these fights. It's not supposed to be easy, and there's no shame in not being able to defeat every video game boss.
This breed of ultra-hard showdown is meant to give an extra challenge for completionists and skilled players to overcome. They've frequently cropped up throughout games for years, with some of the toughest enemies yet appearing in some recent games.
Whether that be what’s become FromSoftware’s most notorious bosses yet, gruelling endgame enemies who’ll throw everything they have at you, or final showdowns that capped-off some challenging games, these are the bosses that drove players to breaking point.
Congratulations if you’ve beaten any of these nightmarish nemeses.
10. Mother Miranda - Resident Evil Village (2021)
When Ethan Winters becomes stranded in village populated with monsters, he finds himself fighting against its group of ghastly leaders so that he can rescue his infant daughter from their diabolical plans.
Taking out village matriarch Mother Miranda, though, will prove to be Ethan’s toughest ordeal yet.
The Resident Evil series has had its fair share of difficult bosses throughout the years, with Jack Krauser’s second encounter in the Resident Evil 4 Remake being just as pesky as it was before. However, avoiding Krauser's mutated arms is trivial compared to Miranda's onslaught.
Comprised of multiple stages with their own set of powerful attacks, Miranda is able shroud the arena in darkness, dive through the air, and throw fiery orbs at Ethan. It's a long final fight that requires some learning, but it's Miranda's spider phase that causes the most frustration.
Incredibly fast and able to lunge at players, avoiding damage while she's in this phase is almost impossible. It’s recommended to deal as much damage at this point as possible to get her out of this phase quickly.
Miranda is vexing enough in regular difficulties but facing her in Village Of Shadows mode makes for the hardest boss fight in the entire Resi series.
