10 Video Game Endings That Left You Totally Speechless

10. Farewell To Tidus - Final Fantasy X

In the minds of a generation of fans, Final Fantasy X pretty much cemented itself as the last good game in the now ailing franchise. Since then, most of the games have been relatively lackluster affairs - disappointing stories, coupled with cliched, underdeveloped characters. A shame, given that it was the characters that made Final Fantasy X so darn good.

Which is why its ending was utterly heartbreaking - one that forced you to sit, tears welling in your eyes, wondering why oh why Tidus and Yuna couldn't be together! It wasn't fair!

After defeating Sin and completing his life mission, Tidus - the hero of the game - suddenly realises that he's not human, and he must return to the alternative world from which he came. As the music swells, Tidus hugs Yuna from behind as he begins to fade, before taking a valiant dive off the edge of a platform into the mist below, where he soars past his fallen mentors before finally high-fiving his lost dad, Jecht, as the game cuts to black.

It's a masterful ending, and one with the power to inspire tears all these years later.
