10 Video Game Plot Twists EVERYONE Saw Coming

When players come face to face with Father - aka the leader of The Institute - near the end of Fallout 4, it's revealed that he is in fact that player character's son Shaun, who was kidnapped from cryostasis 60 years earlier.

But this one's spelled out pretty blatantly for players if they're paying even just a little attention. 

Above all else, we know that the player is put back into stasis following Shaun's abduction for an indeterminate period, making it clear that Shaun will likely be considerably older when we next meet him.

And given that Shaun's whereabouts is the central mystery of the game, it simply made sense that, instead of a soppy reunion between father and son, he'd actually be the bait-and-switch antagonist.

Now it's still fun to see the twist play out, and frankly Bethesda has never really been one for water-tight, un-guessable plot reveals, but where large, unaccounted-for passages of time are concerned, always assume you're being messed with.
