10 Video Games In 2021 Everyone Regretted Buying

Despite the many AAA disappointments released this year, not one has invoked quite the ire of paying customers as the ill-advisedly monikered Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition, the remaster trilogy of GTA III, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas.

Even with the suspiciously slight pre-release marketing, many fans had simply convinced themselves that Rockstar didn't feel the need to over-hype remasters of three games everybody already knows and loves.

But Rockstar's lack of communication was ultimately motivated by the fact they knew they were pushing an unpolished dud out the door, with the Definitive Edition being panned by critics and players alike.

Though the trilogy of games certainly isn't unplayable, and there are a few welcome quality-of-life additions, the litany of bugs, horrendous visual issues, and unappealingly cartoonish art-style have rubbed most players up the wrong way.

Ultimately what should've been a glossy, nostalgic update of three of the most beloved video games of all time is a sad and depressingly cynical attempt to exploit a fanbase Rockstar knows will fork over cash with the expectation of quality.

But given that Rockstar outsourced the remaster to their regular port factory Grove Street Studios, it's perhaps not terribly surprising that it lacks the publisher's usual perfectionist sheen.

In addition to all this upset players were denied refunds, and so many responded by review-bombing the game on Metacritic, causing it to bottom-out at a 0.4/10 average score, one of the lowest in the site's history.

While you can't really blame players for having faith in Rockstar here, this is why you should always wait for reviews - especially if you're buying a game digitally and have no ability to resell it.
