10 Video Games That Didn't Go FAR ENOUGH
3. F1 Race Stars
F1 Race Stars is a game that many have forgotten, and even more never heard of to begin with.
Released in November 2012, the game was a typical, by-the-numbers kart racer. However, instead of Mario and Luigi, it included the grid of that year's F1 season with the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, and Kimi Räikkönen making up its roster. The references didn't stop there, though, as tracks were inspired by real-world circuits on the calendar.
This sounds great, but upon completing just a handful of races, it became clear that the game lacked identity, as it failed to lean into the sport that spawned it. With the likes of Monza, Silverstone and Montreal featured in the game, they didn't feel anything like what F1 fans would have expected, as the iconic corners and gorgeous scenery is replaced by Mario Kart-ish mayhem.
As such, it didn't do anything to stand out. It released on a litany of platforms, yet never reached the heights that Nintendo has achieved, and while there is fun to be had, it didn't go far enough with the F1 license.
F1 Race Stars forgets the magic of the circuits that it includes, and thinks that more craziness is better when in reality, it was its downfall.
