10 Video Games That Had No Right Being This Good - Commenter's Edition
3. Mad Max
In a similar fashion to X-Men Origins, Mad Max took the most thrilling, visceral action from the movie of the same name and ran with it.
There are parallels to be drawn between the setting of Mad Max and the original Borderlands, in that the player must traverse a vast and unfriendly expanse that has been claimed by violet bandits. Vehicle combat is quite a challenge for developers, and few games have managed to make it feel as brutal, satisfying, and purely destructive as the concept promises. Mad Max, for some, delivers that.
It's not the most narrative-driven and complex of experiences, but nor is it supposed to be. If you can overlook the storytelling shortcomings, the action delivered here is a blast. Often literally.
The franchise is known for its bombastic, over-the-top action, and this has always been a very difficult thing for developers to do justice to in video game adaptations. As with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, though, it's a grim and visceral experience that is far from perfect, but battles to do right by the source material.
