Pac-Man has had quite the rollercoaster of a life since his arrival in arcades in 1980. From being a tent-pole addition to almost every establishment to being one of the prime causes of the 1983 video game crash, the little yellow circle has earned his place in history.

One of the first major ports was to the Atari 2600, which sold well but was poorly received by fans of the cabinet. It didn't stop Atari from releasing on other consoles though like their follow-up system, the 5200, the Commodore 64, Intellevision, ZX Spectrum, among others. Nintendo would follow shortly with Famicom/NES and Game Boy versions, as well as every variation of their handhelds.

Namco would launch Pac-Man via several compilation releases, from Namco Museum Vol. 1 for the PlayStation, to Pac-Man Museum in 2014 for 7th generation consoles. All these into account, the ghost muncher has his original game released on around 35 different systems, not to mention it's inclusion as a bonus on other games like Pac-Man 2 and Pac-Man World 2.

As the grandfather of the arcade it's no wonder Pac-Man has been often named as one of the greatest video games of all time, and continues to be a mainstay in arcades today.
