10 Video Games That Immediately DEVASTATE You
3. God Of War
Before the series’ revival, the last time that players saw Kratos canonically was at the end of God of War III where he had used his rage to practically raze Olympus and walk away from the destruction like a badass, disappearing forever. So, to return to him all these years later prompted many questions.
The 2018 God of War game however opens sombrely, with the funeral for Kratos’ second wife who he met, married and lost after the events of God of War III. This is a starkly different man to the one we once knew, putting his past behind him in part for the sake of his son Atreus. At eleven years old, no child should lose their Mother let alone prepare her for a funeral pyre.
It’s a fabulously different way to reintroduce a classic character and to introduce a new one and their mannerisms alone say so much about them. Not to mention that Kratos was famously tricked into murdering his old family and was cursed to have their ashes bound to his skin and is faced again with losing a spouse.
God of War, whilst an incredibly fun game, is a much more emotional experience than any other title in the franchise to that point and it lets you know that you’re going to have to deal with feels from the very first scene.
