100 Things You Never Knew About Resident Evil
18. The Man Who Wrote The Book
Whilst some of the concepts began to take shape fast, the story of Resident Evil came together later. In fact, things wouldn't really click until Kenichi Iwao joined the team.
According to the man himself via an interview with Crimson-Head.com, Mikami-san's original story was about a team of soldiers trying to rescue a "good scientist" from a house full of monsters made by an "evil scientist". He also compared the game to Mega Man, which paints an entirely different picture of the scenario.
Whilst Mikami-san is rightfully credited for the game's direction, it was Iwao-san who steered the ship with his writing - inventing Umbrella and STARS, as well as writing all of the notes and files in the original RE1. Speaking to Gaming.Moe, Iwao-san also revealed that Wesker's resurrection after his apparent death in RE1 had always been the plan, despite him leaving Capcom shortly after Resident Evil's release.
He went on to SquareSoft to make Parasite Eve II though, so he just kept on serving up Ws.
