However, developers thought that the game would be too hard for the North American market so the game didn't appear in the US mainstream until 1993 within the Super Mario All-Stars release which contained the first three Mario games and a bonus that was rebranded as The Lost Levels. The Japanese were quite right to assume it's difficulty would be an issue as the platformer was considerably harder than the original despite a near identical look and feel to the game, with the dreaded fake poison mushroom power-up being just the start of the endless obstacles haunting players.
